By manual I'm thinking you mean from my hd to iphone via a usb devive and not sent through the ether. The short of it I guess is there are mp3 files that i would upload to my phone that may have been shared from sites suspected of pirating. Is there a way itunes can tell the diff?

No, when you plug in the ipod initially it asks for a number of "settings" (connect to store, manage files thru "them", synchronize, etc. can't recall them all). However, I set them all to "don't do ANYTHING, I will do it ALL by myself, MANUALLY" and then I use it all the time, and itunes is NOT interfacing with anyone other than "me" (ie, computer is offline...).

I was just half joking, but this is how I do it, and it would mean NO "one" knows what I am using itunes for, what's in it, etc.

thanx for the tips, I would like to own their devices (iphone, ipods) but don't want to BE owned by the company just because I chose their product. Thanx again for clearing that up.
